Ensure the seating (whole class, group work, outside the classroom) makes optimum efficiency of hearing levels for learning – child or young person can see face, person speaking can get full attention of child or young person.
Always face the pupil when speaking, keep hands away from mouth when speaking.
Keep background noise to a minimum (close doors and windows).
Hearing equipment used and managed effectively e.g. assistive listening device.
Equipment policy in place for any loan equipment.
Ensure the working environment is well lit and the pupil has access to lip reading.
Make sure a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan, or PEEP, is completed if appropriate.
