Home or childminder - My child has a developmental delay in one or two areas

Your child may be doing well in most areas of development but may be falling behind in just one or two areas.

If, you have tried the support offered on our ‘Supporting your child's development’ page and your child still has a delay, you should talk to your health visitor.

Your health visitor can give you advice on how to help your child to make progress. If your child is still not making progress or the progress is very slowyour health visitor can tell you which service you may need to be referred to for extra help. For example, a speech and communication delay may need a referral to the Speech and Language Therapy Team.

It is the health visitor’s role to make these referrals for your child. They will tell you about the criteria for a referral to be accepted.

Links to some of the services available are shown at the bottom of this page.
