Home or childminder - My child has a diagnosis of autism

It can be difficult to diagnose young children, or children with a developmental delay, with autism. Some of the differences associated with autism are also present in very young childrenHowever, some early years children are diagnosed.

If your child is diagnosed before they start nursery or school, the support will still be provided by our Early Years team. You will need to tell the team about the diagnosis and have a copy of it in writing. Once your child starts a nursery or a school, they will be referred to the Autism team which is part of Solihull Specialist Inclusion Support Service (SISS).

If you do not receive early years support

If your child is not currently known to the Early Years team, you can ask any professional involved with your child to do an Early Years Team Around a Child (EYTAC) referral asking for our involvement.

Choosing a nursery

Solihull nursery provision is there for all children, including children with SEND. They are required by law to be inclusive, and the Early Years Team help them to understand their duties to meet the needs of all children. We are very proud of how inclusive our settings are.
