MIAS Cycle FIT
MIAS (Mountain-Bike Instructors’ Award Scheme) Cycle FIT is an ideal selection of courses for:
- anyone working in the cycle training industry
- people who want to develop their maintenance skills
- bike fleet managers
The courses cover a range of basic maintenance checks and repairs, through to more complex technical elements.
Cycle FIT Introductory Skills (NVQ equivalent Level 1)
The introductory course is ideal for people who require a basic knowledge of cycle adjustment.
The duration of the course is eight hours and takes place between 8:30am and 5:00pm, with a 30-minute lunchbreak.
Cycle FIT Intermediate Skills (NVQ equivalent Level 2)
This course is ideal for people seeking a more detailed knowledge of cycle maintenance and fleet management.
The duration of the course is 16 hours and takes place across two days between 8:30am and 5:00pm, with a 30-minute lunchbreak on both days.
All courses will take place at our bike workshop and will be delivered by MIAS Level 5 Tutors. Each course should ideally have four people and will be tailored to your requirements in discussion with the tutor.
The workshop is kitted out with an extensive range of Park Tool Professional tools and has a range of suitable bikes ranging from entry level bikes used in our Bikeability training through to the latest electric and e-Cargo fleet.
Learners that meet the required level will receive a MIAS Cycle FIT Maintenance Course Logbook, used to record their ongoing development, and a MIAS Cycle FIT Maintenance Course certificate to the appropriate level.
What do the courses cover?
All levels cover:
- health and safety including working environment and use of tools
- types of cycle and anatomy such as frames, components, materials
- basic tools
- wheels including removal, tubes and tyres, puncture repair
- brake systems including rim and disc
- drivechain including gear systems, cleaning and lubrication
- headsets including adjustment
- pre-ride check
The intermediate course will also cover:
- advanced tools
- brake set up and adjustment including rim and disc, cable and hydraulic
- drivechain including set up and adjustment, road and mountain biking (MTB), bottom brackets
- headset including set up and maintenance
- wheels including hub service and adjustment
- bike fit including setting up a bike for an individual
