Equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) is an important part of the Council’s core business of improving the quality of life and life chances for everyone.
There are several existing Council EDI documents which set out what we want to achieve for people from all backgrounds who live, work, study in or visit Solihull and our plans to do this.
Our featured EDI documents
The new EDI Strategy for 2024-2027 sits alongside other statutory equality information we publish each year.
We’re on a journey to further advance equality, diversity and inclusion in the Council and welcome any feedback that will be considered as we review progress on the strategy. Please email any comments to equalities@solihull.gov.uk.
The strategy is underpinned by our EDI roadmap. The roadmap is an overview of the equality, diversity and inclusion outcomes we want to achieve for the borough and the short, medium and long term goals involved.
The Equal Opportunities Policy Statement explains our commitment to equality and our legal responsibilities, how we will make our services more accessible to all, the actions we will take and how we will monitor and review the statement to ensure we do what we say.
Each year we also publish other equality information including our Fairness, Inclusion and Equality reports about our employees and our services, and the Gender Pay Gap. These are supporting annual reports which help us to see the progress we are making.
The EDI Workforce strategy (2023-2026) and action plan was previously an internal document that set out our vision and activities for the Council’s workforce on EDI and our broad ambitions over three years. This strategy has now been incorporated into the new People Strategy 2024-2029 which builds on the Council’s workforce ambitions and sets out our aspirations and commitments over the next five years for our employees. The People Strategy will be published externally later in 2024.
We have produced a brief glossary of equality, diversity and inclusion terms we have used in our documents, and what we mean by those terms. We understand that the use of language is constantly changing, and we accept that there are different perspectives on how people describe themselves. We will use feedback to inform future versions of our documents and the terms we use.
If you have any questions about equality, diversity and inclusion please contact the EDI Team by emailing equalities@solihull.gov.uk.
